At 10 a.m. on October 21, 2018, Meilian Experimental School, No.1 Middle School Affiliated to Central China Normal University organized all 90 teachers and students to carry out a fire safety education activity themed "Build a Safe Campus Together" and took fire safety as the “first class” in the new semester. The purpose of this event is to enhance the fire safety awareness of teachers and students and teach the basic knowledge of firefighting. The event is fully supported by the Evergreen Emergency Rescue Squadron in Dongxihu District of Wuhan City which sent eight firefighters to the school as instructors.
In the event, our teachers and students were given a lecture on fire safety, common fire prevention and treatment, fire alarm and precautions, firefighting in the early stage, the use of firefighting equipment, fire evacuation, self-rescue and other related knowledge. At the lecture, the students listened carefully and actively participated in interaction.
The lecture was followed by a campus evacuation exercise. When an emergency alarm sounded through the campus, teachers in classrooms immediately gave instructions. Under the guidance of teachers, students quickly took out their wet towels and covered their noses and mouths. They bent down and evacuated from the front and back doors quickly and orderly to the designated safety zone - the central square. The whole process took only three minutes. After the exercise, firefighters and six students conducted a siege rescue exercise at the site, demonstrating the correct ways and processes of fire rescue.
